another Josiah story

Although, this may be more about the ladies at our church!

Yesterday at breakfast before church service, Josiah was drinking chocolate milk.  At some point he decided to pour it evenly between 3 cups. (Don't ask my why, I don't know.) When I came up he had coffee stirrers in the cups and was trying to drink out of 2 cups at the same time.

The next thing I know one of the ladies, I'll call her Carol (because that is her name!) was egging Josiah on to try to drink out of all three at the same time. Never one to back down from a challenge, Josiah figured out how to position all three cups so he could drink from them at the same time, while the ladies cheered and took pictures!  Oh, my.....now I understand why Preacher's Kids turn out like they do!

( I must say he was disappointed to not finish all three cups at the same time.)

My Son

My son is just the coolest little guy. He has a heart of gold.  He is sensitive and super sweet, yet doesn't hesitate to stand up for himself when he feels he's being taken advantage of.  He's surrounded by 4 sisters.  Two older and two younger.  He handles it really well, although sometimes he is heard to voice displeasure with the situation, "Dad, I am tired of playing with my sisters," he says.  (We haven't found any boys his age in the neighborhood yet.

He is way too smart.  Today he informed his hot Sunday School teacher that the word JOY is alphabetical.  Hadn't really thought about it, but he is right.  I haven't told him or the girls this, but the school called asking if we wanted him moved up to second grade.  Nope! Yes, he is a couple of grade levels about first grade, but he fits in beautifully socially.  Moving him up could change that.  It could make middle school really difficult on him, so he stays in first grade, reading 3rd and 4th grade level books, working on the 5th grade word list and going to the gifted math program.  At home he is learning Spanish.

We watch the Biggest Loser on Tuesday nights together.  After the first episode he asked me how many calories in milk.  I told him.  Then he asked how many calories in water.  I told him.  He told me, "I will have water because I don't want to be on the Biggest Loser."

Recently, he has been working out on the wii to the Biggest Loser. He comes upstairs panting and saying, "Bob really killed me with that workout! See how skinny I am!"

He is addicted to the computer.  And he is good on it.  I do have to keep an eye on him because he has discovered Google.  We are on safe search of course, but you never know.  He loves Google Earth.

At the bus stop, no matter where he is in line, when the bus comes, he drops out of line and gives me a hug, putting himself at the end of the line. EVERY DAY!

What a great little guy I have.  He never fails to make me smile.

Conference

And the correct guesser was (drum roll please....) My mom! (She commented on Facebook in case you were wondering.)

My conference this morning was for Josiah. Mrs. Phelps, his teacher, is a doll! And she really cares about her students. I am so glad that Josiah has her as a teacher. I requested the conference because I, if you'll excuse me while a brag, because Josiah is just to darn smart. The little guy taught himself to read while he was in preschool. (Of course it was because he wanted to be able to play on the computer without needing help. But that is besides the point.)

Now, I didn't want to come off as one of those parents. Remember I used to be a teacher. Those parents are the ones that think their child is the smartest child since Einstein. (Yeah, right, Einstein didn't speak until he was three or four, Josiah was reading by then . Just kidding!!) I just wanted to make sure that he was being challenged so he wasn't becoming a disruption or distraction for the rest of the kids. Have I mentioned how much he loves to talk? I had visions of him finishing work and then talking to his neighbors.

But, thankfully, Mrs. Phelps has it all under control! Yay for good teachers!!!

Everybody in the City

Charis started it. Of course. She starts everything! A few months ago, at bedtime, she started telling me, "Mama, I love everybody in the city!" It eventually began to make it's way into her prayers. "Tank oo for mama an daddy an Gracie an LiLi and Ziah an Bella an everybody in the city!
Josiah's take on it, is to ask, everytime we are in the car is "Are we still in OUR city?"
Ella wants to know if Mama knows everybody in the city? (No dear, that is your father's department.)
But I must admit, they are a great reminder daily, sometimes hourly, to be praying for "everybody in the city."

Catching Up From the Week

Wow! Where has the week gone? And where have I been?

On Monday, Grace and Olivia went swimming with our friends from down the street at Burwood Pool. They had a ton of fun, the little fish. And then one of the girls spent the night here. I think they actually got some sleep. I admit, I was asleep before they were. Shhhh, don't tell them!

On Tuesday, we had a play date a couple of streets over with a former student and her children. I don't know if it makes me young or old to have children the same age as the children of the kids I taught. (Follow that? ) A few hours after that, the kids went over to Jeanne's to play in MacLand! I can't explain that, you have to see it! Jeanne kept the kids for the evening. She even bathed and fade them. Kevin and I took full advantage of the time to spend time together.....okay, he did homework for his class and I went to the grocery.

Wednesday I just tried to catch up on things. I cleaned up the house. We were supposed to have dinner, but our guest wasn't able to make it. At least Kevin and the kids ate really well!!

Thursday? I don't know. I think that was the day the kids were really difficult. Let me amend that. More difficult that usual. (Note: Charis is crying over a balloon right now. And Josiah is whining over balloons.)

Friday, I had my post op appointment. Everything looks good and I will have my first band fill on Sept. 5. I stopped at the produce market on the way home and got veggies for a tray for church today.
Okay, NOT THOSE VEGGIES!! I spent the evening at church with several other volunteers to set up for today's events.

Today a bunch of kids came from State Ave. Church to spend a morning with our kids. They sang and played games (the prizes were all school supplies!) and ate a delicious lunch! A wonderful time was had by all. The kids from both churches got along great and were an amazing example of Christian love.

Now we are getting ready to head back to church for our monthly Family Fun Night. Don't let the name fool you. It's the church family, not just families!

Off to get ready for dinner!

Conversations with Josiah

Our electricity went out today, just as we were getting ready to eat dinner.

Josiah: why did the power go out?

Me: That just happens sometimes.

Josiah: If we turn on the tv it will light up the living room!
